Carey was a top model in fashion who measured at almost 5'10", was popular with American fashion designers such as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father is a renowned geologist who was voted Scientist of the Year back in 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey was a frequent traveler due to her father's work. As she attended in the University of Colorado at part-time and was able to catch the attention of a Ford model Agency representative in New York. The model briefly studied and lived in Paris before returning in New York. Her modeling as well as her college career took off and she was featured on Vogue's, Glamour's, and a variety of other magazines' covers. In addition to modeling, she studied at New York University full-time to earn a master's degree in literature. When she arrived in New York she began to study acting. The year 1986 was the year she had her first role in acting, a bit part in Club Paradise, with Robin Williams. When she is not working she likes to ski, windsurfing, climbing rocks as well as whitewater kayaking.
